The Tyalgum Education Working group are holding a fundraiser on Sunday afternoon on 22 November 2009 at the Tyalgum Hall showing the Transition Networks’ recently released documentary In Transition version 1.

The desire to support and harness the momentum, goodwill and enthusiasm that has been generated in all the workshops held over the last year is the park to gather all the other folk working on resilience in this region.   Our social connections are the glue of resilient communities and creating the opportunities for celebration and fun is a big part of this process.

Leading into what is for many, the celebratory season seems a great time to take stock of where we are at and have a good time.   Showing what other communities around the world are working on and the ingenious ways they are creating sustainable outcomes will add to the context of our own transition work and, I hope, spark posibilites for further projects and events.

So, we invite you to bring a picnic lunch or something to bbq, to enjoy some lively conversation and to watch the documentary In Transition version 1.   Afterwards you can hear updates of transition groups, actions and activities in the region or be part of a discussion (really – it depends what people want to do!).

The proceeds of the film will go towards the cost of this Community Association’s  insurance costs.   As many of you would know, the burden of compulsory insurance on community groups of all kinds is enormous.

We hope to see you there!

‘In Transition’ Movie Night

Written by admin on May 14th, 2009

On Saturday May 23rd at Flutterbies Cottage Cafe in Tyaldum, we will be hosting a special screening of the premiere of the new film ‘In Transition’ which will be streamed live on the internet from the UK!

With input from Transition communities around the world it tells the story of the people that have looked peak oil and climate change square in the face, and responded with creativity, compassion and genius. In the film you will see the stories of communities creating their own currencies, setting up their own pubs, planting trees, growing food.  You’ll see local authorities getting behind their local Transition initiatives, and get a sense of the scale of this emerging movement.

It is a story of hope and it is a call to action, and is a support to the Caldera Economic Transition project being held in Tyalgum the following day.

Flutterbies will be open from 7:30pm and there will be a $10 cover charge for the night which includes a light dinner. Earlier in the evening we will also be screening the documentary ‘The Future of Farming’, a recent BBC documentary – so popular it was shown twice in one month! Coffee and dessert will be available through-out the night as well, however this is not included in the cover charge. Bookings are Essential! Please come join us for a special night of celebration and information.

… my recent talks on Transition Towns

Your giving your time is proof that we are not on our own in wondering what will happen next and how can we make a positive contribution to our communities.

In the last week or so it is becoming more and more clear to me that the basis of how we move forward will be based on our social relationships.  In some ways this must be a first step – establishing and cementing trust and, i think, discovering what others are already doing and supporting those actions.  So far 42 people have attended these talks in Murwillumbah and I feel you should all meet!  I’m sure many of you know or know of each other.  Others are new to this region or really don’t know anyone else.   I would love to receive your suggestions about a social gathering.  Witnessing the buzz, the conversations and connections made after talks has been quite inspiring. So, shall we get together and be inspired again by these others?  We could spend a little time figuring out what to do next or just let the creative genius of this little community explode.

In the caldera, including the scenic rim, there are 5 people I know of who attended Transisiton Training with Naresh and Sopy from England and another 5 or 6 who I met at a workshop with the ladies from the Sunshine Coast. Would you like to include these folk in a gathering?

Another question,  will you give permission to share your contact details with others who have attended these talks?  Would you be interested in exchanging, as part of that contact list, some details of your interests, qualifications and passions?  try to list under the head, the heart and the hands.

As I mentioned, Here are some short cuts to transition related websites.  I’m not much of a techie, so full addresses are listed not proper links to follow.

www.transitionculture.org Rob hopkins blog

www.seac.net.au Sunshine Coast portal
http://goop.org/~robin/ttb/, Austalia’s newest TT – Barraba NSW – example of pretty good website and where I would have ended up if I hadn’t come to Tyalgum!

As mentioned at our talk TT Open Space on youtube. Also a jump-off point to other transition themed video.

the transition network newsletter.  This month has reviews of several shows and youtube video. See permablitzing in Melbourne! http://transitionnetworknews.wordpress.com/,  I have seen “A Farm for the Future” (which is now called “Rebecca’s Wild Farm”) and would very much love to show it publicly with the view of presenting it in several venues around the region – I am waiting for costings from the BBC but its appears to be in the vicinity of $1400 for multiple screenings.  What venues could you suggest and, if you have any suggestions, would you be interested in helping me stage a show?

TGL has 10 new edition Transition Handbooks on order and have been waiting for over 2 weeks for delivery.  Some of you have pre-ordered and I must apologise for the delay.  We have not had a smooth time with this distributor but I am advised that said books were dispatched on Thursday last.  for those waiting their copy I will contact you immediately they arrive.

Regards and good cheer to you all.
